Majella are one of the most highly awarded small wineries in Australia, the inaugural release of The Musician was met with unprecedented critical acclaim. In the tradition of the most salubrious Coonawarra vineyards, the Majella property was used extensively for grazing before being planted to vine. The enduring Australian accord of Cabernet and Shiraz, previous vintages of Musician have claimed a breathtaking list of gold medals and conspicuous trophies within a very short succession of vintages.

Mallea is the Majella estate flagship, only ever produced from the choicest parcels of fruit, picked off the finest blocks of vine, only when growing conditions are perfect for the construct of a superior Cabernet Shiraz. Majella was never planned as a label in it's own right, originally planted to vineyards with the intention of supplying grapes to established wineries. The growers however, always made a bit of wine from their best grapes and knew that the quality was very good. A rare indulgement, fermented and aged in exclusively new French oak.

The Lynn family have been Coonawarra locals for generations, the Majella property has long been in family hands. Acquired by George and Pat Lynn in 1960, ostensibly for grazing, it was ultimately established as vineyards in 1968. The House Block was sown to vines in 1971, it remains the source of Majella's most superior single parcel of Cabernet Sauvignon. Treated to a rich course of barrel ferments and extravagance of twenty months maturation in the luxury of new French oak, the countenance of Coonawarra excellence, a mere 200 dozen were made.

Coonawarra Merlot is every bit as elegant, fragrant and generously proportioned as the mighty Cabernet, often assembled together for a rounded, softer style of red, Merlot provides a plummy, chamois tannined option when bottled as a pure varietal wine. Majella take their duty to the soil and environment very seriously, they are as fastidious about the health of local flora and fauna, as they are about maintaining the purity and hygiene of their fruit. The dividends come in the form of an immaculate Merlot wine of faultless varietal eloquence and graceful regional charm.

Excellent Langtons Classification. One of the Coonawarra's most feted marques in Cabernet Sauvignon. The Majella property was originally acquired for the purpose of grazing lamb. Eric Brand of neighbouring Laira Vineyard offered to buy fruit from Majella if the land was turned over to Cabernet. The site was planted in 1968, much of the vintages that followed went to Wynn's, but it was not until 1993 that Majella vinified and bottled its own estate labelled wine. The inaugural release was enthusiastically received and Majella have never looked back.

St George is the archetypal full bodied, engaging and complex Coonawarra Terra Rosa Cabernet, sourced from the celebrated twelve hectares of St. George Vineyard, known to feature some of the eldest, most reputable plantings in all Coonawarra. This statuesque Medoc cépage of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Franc, picked off the most elite Coonawarra vineyards, is exactingly crafted by the most accomplished winemakers within the Lindemans team, into a dark, rich red accord of extraordinary complexity, remarkable integration, stylishness and intensity, paradoxically an Australian icon wine which can be enjoyed in its youth.

Distinguished Langtons Classification. Sydney Hamilton was a highly accomplished oenologist who established the Leconfield brand in 1974, at the ripe old age of 76. His commemorative label is crafted from the top cut of Cabernet Sauvignon, hand picked off the original estate plantings, vinified in Sydney's favourite old fermenter, finished in a luxurious selection of completely new Dargaud Jaeglé French oak hogsheads and aged an extravagant twenty nine months. Dominated by opaque winegum, black cherries and cassis, draped in a robe of satin tannins, Coonawarra Cabernet of the highest order.

John Riddoch brewed up Coonawarra's second vintage in 1896 under a woolshed which now ages barrels of Katnook Cabernet. The original Coonawarra Fruit Colony itself was headquartered in a limestone building which now serves as cellar door. Vines have been trained over the course of decades to extract maximum flavour from the long slow Coonawarra ripening, achieving harvests of Cabernet with ripe generous flavours and fine lingering tannins.

The fruit for this wine was harvested from mature low-yielding vines on the Jamiesons Run most northerly Coonawarra vineyards, and grower vineyards east of Penola. A warm and sunny vintage ensured the fruit developed ripe berry flavours, moderate acid and fine, ripe tannins, the vines produced small compact bunches of small berries with excellent colour and regional varietal flavours. Ravenswood Lane is the link between the Hollick Coonawarra Vineyards, namely the Neilson's Block. First vintaged in 1988, Ravenswood is only released when the wine satisfies the very exacting quality parameters set by the Hollick team. The best parcels of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Hollick vineyards are earmarked for Ravenswood, typically the fruit comes from the oldest vines growing in very shallow Terra rossa soil. Oomoo comes to Coonawarra in search of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon, the nose is highly appealing with requisite violet and cassis perfumes, the palate is brimming with melt in the mouth cherry bramble flavours, the oak is stylish, the tannins inseparable and judiciously firm.

Coonawarra Cabernet has established itself as a unique genre of Australian wine. McWilliams have long expressed an affinity for the unique red earth soils which consistently yield the big boned, statuesque style of Australian red wine. Plant a six inch nail, water it and in a year you will have a crowbar! said John James McWilliam when he surveyed the ferrous red soils of Hanwood in 1913. A descendant of Coonawarra's oldest vines, Brand's Laira yields exceptional quality harvests of Cabernet Sauvignon which owe their provenence to historic plantings. The property played an important role in establishing Coonawarra's international reputation as Australia's most eminent red winegrowing region. Drawing fruit from superlative vineyards, including a single block which hosts the original 1893 vines, Brand's Laira is intensely varietal and displays the distinctive Cabernet Sauvignon style which has made Coonawarra famous.

McWilliam's acquired the eminent Laira property in the 1990s and are now one of the largest landholders in Coonawarra.
